Custom Design - timing, licensing, pricing, and more...
I am very sorry, but at this time I cannot take any custom design orders due to a lack of time available to work on artwork. I can, however, make minor changes of no more than 20% to the scale as well as changing the orientation (flipping it 90 degrees) for existing designs upon request at no charge.
How long will it take?
To respond to my inquiry sent through Glimmericks
While I check emails regularly, I usually do not have time to work on my Glimmericks e-mails on my laptop until Friday night and Saturday. However, life has its way of getting in the way and so does my Yahoo spam filter. If you haven't heard from me a week, please send me another message. If you need to hear back faster than a week, please put the word URGENT at the top of your message text.
It is really helpful if you provide a link to any designs you are referencing. I know you may think of it as a Mardi Gras Fleur de Lis, but my actual title is probably different and I may have similarly titled or multiple versions of the same design out there. I also don't always name the original file the same as the final title on the publicized image. I have over 6000 designs and more are always being added!
I will only respond to serious inquiries and will only initiate work upon receipt of any commission deposits via Paypal. If you want me to put a set of designs onto a single yard to save money, please be advised that the $150 full redesign fee would apply since putting multiple designs onto a single yard (or fat quarter or swatch) requires the development of a complete, large scale, unique design image.

Same as above.
To develop a logo or design or version of an existing design
I usually work on designs on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes I have a lot of other work going on or events that I am involved in and I may have to skip a week or two while I attend to the other stuff. Usually I can finish up within 2 weekends of an order; but to be honest, my design time is limited. If I have to wait for clarification, custom color designations, etc. this can add to the time required to finish a project.

I am confused about licensing. What can I do with fabrics, wallpapers, giftwraps, etc. that I purchase from your Spoonflower shop?
Once you buy something that has been imprinted with one of my designs you can do anything with the physical item you bought EXCEPT reproduce the design or create a derivative design* from it. That means you can make a blanket or bag or complete line of clothing, or bookcover, or anything else and sell it if you want to. This is because when a piece of fabric purchased from Spoonflower has been incorporated into your product, its copyright for that piece of fabric has been exhausted. It's something called the first use doctrine in trademark law. You can even post a picture of the item on your website to sell it, and while it is not necessary, I appreciate a shout-out listing my website if you post a picture of something made with one of my design products. If you let me know that you have a product for sale or a picture of a finished item that uses one of my design products, I will add it to my list of fabric sightings.
What you cannot do is show a closeup view of the design separate from the item you are selling - it must be displayed with the item and with watermarked copyrights or partially obscured so that others cannot easily copy it. You must also provide attribution to either "Pamela Rinehart / www.glimmericks.com" or "Glimmericks on Spoonflower" on any such thumbnails or closeup views of the fabric itself to aid in preserving my copyright. Unless otherwise indicated, photographs, scans, tracing, etc. of my designs or materials made from my designs may not be used as background images or incorporated into other designs reproduced in either digital or physical form without permission, attribution, and payment of licensing fees.
*Some people think there's a rule of thumb that it's okay to copy something if you change it by a mysterious 20%. That's hogwash. There is no such rule. Unless something is so old that it's not covered by copyright, you cannot rework it to make your own design. >> READ MORE

I want a special color combination or a resizing or rotation of an existing design. What charges can I expect?
Changes to scale of up to 20% and design rotations can be had for a flat fee of $25 per instance, payable in advance via Paypal. Recoloration and resizing of existing designs above or below 20% is priced at $50 per instance due to the additional time and testing required prior to release for sale. Additional multiple colorways of a single design are $5 each. Accelerated proofing is available for an additional $25. These fees for my effort do not include any pricing, shipping or discounts Spoonflower offers for swatches, fabrics and papers that you may purchase.
No licensing is included for custom colors/scales/orientations - that means you will not own the design and will not be permitted to reproduce it, but you will be able to use fabrics and papers printed through my vendors for which I receive commissions.

I have a small shop making phone cases and other small items that I print myself. Can I have permission to use your designs on my items?
If by "use" you are talking about printing them yourself then - NO. While you can purchase all the fabric and paper you want from one of my shops and use your purchases to manufacture items that you then sell, you absolutely cannot reproduce my designs on your items using a printer or by redrawing them yourself. That's exactly when you will be guilty of willfully infringing upon my work. I'm entitled to earn commissions on my designs and I have settled on using both Spoonflower and Zazzle to reproduce my designs on items for sale. Please respect my copyrights.
What do you charge for a custom design?
If we are talking about a custom or special new design, fees depend on whether you want no license (just want to buy it from my Spoonflower collection), a non-exclusive license, or an exclusive license.
Fees for custom design work begin at $150 plus $75 per hour beyond the first hour.

•If you want a term-limited, substrate-limited, exclusive license, please provide a proposal. I will not respond to vague requests or fishing for pricing.
•I do not grant rights to others to digitally reproduce and display my designs or to offer them for sale in digital form.
•I do not grant exclusive, indefinite licenses where I transfer copyrights. It's my stuff and I like to keep it that way.

Do you design logos?
Yes, I do. The rate depends on your business size, amount of work involved in the design, constraints, and intended use. My design tiers are personal, small business, and corporate.
For a small business (if you have to ask you probably are), the price ranges from $500 to $900, depending on complexity and amount of rework involved. $500 covers about 5 hours of design work, including up to three design alternatives, plus two "tweaks" ( a total of 5 design opportunities), each presented in multiple colorways and black and white. You will receive digital copies of the logo in black and white and color in three scales of your choosing. You will also have a non-exclusive*, non-limited right to the use of the intact logo (with or without any incorporated text component). The price for logos is slightly higher because a preliminary search of the web and databases is included to identify and resolve potential IP conflicts.
* Typically, I also create a banner design and a few fabric/wallpaper/giftwrap designs incorporating your logo that you can purchase via my Spoonflower shop as well as on Zazzle products. You will be the exclusive purchaser for any design that features your logo (I will make it available for purchase by request only and remove it from public view immediately after each order) unless you indicate otherwise. Any design elements that I incorporate into your logo remain my copyrighted work but as a logo customer, you will have the right to use the intact logo with or without its embedded text elements in perpetuity as you see fit.
If you are interested in a logo, please send me an inquiry.

How do I get to see the designs/logos while they are in progress?
There are two ways to handle this. For sensitive designs such as logos and custom designs that are for commercial purposes, I typically set up a private web page where you can view and select options. These pages will provide closeups and other detail that is of a higher resolution than can be seen on the Spoonflower site.
For designs that are not sensitive such as custom colorways, rescaling or transformation, a link to the altered design will be made available for public view. Adjustments may be made in the form of new design files or may replace earlier versions.
